Two toddlers were found left alone and naked in unsanitary conditions Wednesday night by a maintenance worker who showed up at a Cherokee County apartment to fix a water leak.
That same night deputies arrested their mother, Ms. Angel Henderson, and charged her with two counts of cruelty to children, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said she had left the children alone for about eight hours.
Around 7:30 p.m. deputies responded to the Waldan Pond apartments on Bells Ferry Road in Acworth after they received a report about a child neglected, the sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said.
“A maintenance worker at the complex was looking for the source of a water leak when he discovered a 2 and 3-year-old locked in a bedroom of an apartment with no adult inside the unit,”
The boys apparently had been playing in a sink which was the source of the water leak, Lt. Baker said.
“The children were unclothed and conditions in the room were not sanitary,” Lt. Baker said.
About 8 p.m., the boys’ mother arrived at the apartment.
“Henderson initially told investigators she had only been away from the apartment for two hours but it was later discovered she had been away since 11 a.m. that day,” Lt. Baker said.
Ms. Henderson was booked into the Cherokee Adult Detention Center where she was being held on $44,400 bond.
The boys were taken into protective custody.
