Horrific news out of Brooklyn, N.Y. as a 37-year-old mother and her four young children were stabbed to death inside their home late Saturday night, Oct. 26.
USA Today reported that a person of interest is in police custody.
Emergency personnel arrived at the home last night around 11 p.m. after responding to a 911 call about a stabbing.
When police arrived at the scene, all five victims were found unresponsive and stabbed in the upper portions of their bodies
A 1-year-old boy and two girls, ages 7 and 9, were pronounced dead at the residence by emergency responders.
A boy, 5, and the 37-year-old woman were taken to two Brooklyn hospitals where they were pronounced dead, police said.
May Chan, a resident and neighbor in the Sunset Park neighborhood, said that the stabbings were “heartbreaking.”
"I always see (the kids) running around here," Chan said.
"They run around by my garage playing."
The NYPD won’t be releasing the names of the five victims until family members have been notified.
Sky News reported that the 25-year-old person of interest in custody was arrested at the murder scene and is believed to be related to the victims. The suspect, discovered with blood on his bare feet, was handcuffed and arrested inside the home.
Evidence obtained at the scene included a machete and scissors. The man arrested has not yet been charged.
The father of the children returned home after work last night, only to find the area cordoned off by police.
