Molly Ringwald to sing at Live at the Temple tonight

See also

Most Iowans only know Molly Ringwald as the "Brat Pack" actress who starred in the 80's John Hughes movies Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Pretty in Pink. Several know her Broadway, Off-Broadway, and cable television work. Very few know that Ringwald is also an author and jazz singer. However, the latter will change tonight as Ringwald performs at The Temple Theater in Des Moines at 7:30 p.m. The show is part of the Live at the Temple concert series. Tickets for the show are still available through the Temple box office and all Ticketmaster locations for $45 to $55 (plus any applicable fees).

Molly Ringwald grew up on jazz. Her father, Bob Ringwald, was a jazz pianist, and as a youth, Ringwald often sang along with her father and his band. Last year, Ringwald renewed one of her childhood passions when she released her first jazz album, Except Sometimes. The album was produced by pianist Peter Smith, who also plays in her backing band. The red-haired songstress will perform her new arrangements of songs like “The Very Thought of You”, “You Fascinate Me", and her tribute to the late John Hughes, Simple Minds' #1 smash "Don't You (Forget About Me)" (made famous on The Breakfast Club soundtrack). You can check out Ringwald singing the song and talking about her album in the embedded video.
