Mollies Famous Cafe: Home cooked meals served all day everyday
I have lived in San Juan Capistrano for several years. I was out and about last Saturday and decided to try a new spot for breakfast. I rarely eat breakfast out, but this was my very lucky day. I remembered that Mollies Famous Cafe was quite a popular spot and located at 32033 Camino Capistrano just off Del Obispo Street and across the street from Historic San Juan Capistrano. There is always a line on the weekends to get into the restaurant to dine. And, there was a line this past Saturday morning. But lucky for me, it was just myself and there was one seat open at the counter. The restaurant was jam packed with large table of 6-8 people and small booths filled to capacity. There is also outdoor tables and they were filled as well. It was only 9:15 am.
I began to look at the menu. I was really hungry and there were pages of items being offered. The friendly servers were amazing. I had four people ask if I wanted a cup of coffee. While I was looking over the menu, several people came in. It seemed that there are so many local and “regular” customers coming in to dine. They were all greeted on a first name basis. The servers knew exactly what they were going to order as well. Also, many people came in with their own coffee cups and were getting them filled while they were waiting to be seated.
I was really in the mood for an egg scramble with spinach and mushrooms. I placed my order and then was served a cup of coffee. I will tell you it was probably the best cup of coffee I've had in years. It was so perfectly brewed and delicious. In fact, I asked if I could purchase some beans and they said “yes.” I wrote a written request for the owner and look forward to hearing from someone soon.
Mollies Famous Cafe is owned by Georgia and Phil Sharpe. They opened the restaurant in 1982. Their dream was to serve down home cooking. Well, it sure came true and all items are prepared from scratch in the kitchen.
The restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast and lunch menu items are served all day long. The restaurant is open 7 days a week starting at 5:30 am to 8:00 pm; Monday through Saturday and Sunday 5:30 am to 2:00 pm. Take out orders are welcome. Weekday specials are offered for breakfast, lunch and dinner starting at $3.75. There are 150 affordable items to choose from. The portions are enormous and very generous. Mollies serves eggs to omelets, waffles to pancakes, cold and hot sandwiches, healthy salads, homemade soups and country style dinners and some great desserts. Wine, beer and Champagne are also available.
And, yes, I did get my egg scramble with fresh spinach and mushrooms and a side of English Muffin. And everything was so delicious and so memorable. I hope you, too, get a chance to enjoy a great meal at Mollies Famous Cafe in San Juan Capistrano, CA.
