Fisher-Price announced a "recall to inspect" the Fisher-Price Newborn Rock 'n Play Sleepers on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013. The newborn seats have a tendency to develop mold or mildew between the seat cushion and the hard plastic frame when they remain wet for a while or are infrequently cleaned.
According to WebMd.com.
"The mold may cause respiratory illnesses and other infections.
So far, Fisher-Price has received 600 reports of mold on the product. Sixteen people have reported that their infant was treated for respiratory issues, coughs, and hives after sleeping in it."
Fisher-Price warns that you need to inspect the Newborn Rock ‘n Play Sleepers periodically to determine if mold or mildew are present.
"Please examine under the removable fabric seat cover and fabric liner for dark brown, gray or black spots indicating mold."
The Fisher-Price press release does not mention returning the Fisher Price Newborn Rock ‘n Play Sleepers, but there is a link that leads you to a 16 step cleaning process, complete with detailed photographs. The customer service line is noted in the event that you need additional help, but nothing is suggested about a return. After you page through the 16 steps of cleaning instructions (that include bleach!) that you must do if mold is found, you may want to just discuss a replacement or a refund.
