Mohegan Sun bid to build resort casino in Western Mass.

Mohegan Sun announced on Monday a strategic partnership with Brigade Capital Management on its project to build a destination resort casino in Palmer, Massachusetts. The agreement with Brigade - a $12 billion New York-based investment advisor - coincides with Mohegan Sun's formal application for a casino license to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

"It's our intent to be the first casino to open its doors in Massachusetts." said Bruce "Two Dogs" Bozsum, chairman of the Mohegan Tribal Council.

Brigade Capital Management is experienced as institutional investment partners on gaming projects in several states across the United States. Brigade’s investment will give Mohegan Sun the strongest financial platform of any casino proponent pursuing a license in Massachusetts, Mohegan said in a press statement.

On Friday, Hard Rock International submitted an application and a $400,000 non-refundable application fee to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission for the development of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino New England to be located in West Springfield, Mass., on the campus of Eastern States Exposition.

Mohegan’s plan is to build their new casino resort on land adjacent to the Massachusetts Turnpike in Palmer.
