Mogis, God of Slaughter - 2BR
Legendary Enchantment Creature - God (Mythic Rare)
As long as your devotion to black and red is less than seven, Mogis isn't a creature.
At the beginning of each opponent's upkeep, Mogis deals 2 damage to that player unless he or she sacrifices a creature.
A devotion of seven really isn't that hard to hit as it may sound. Mogis, God of Slaughter can potentially be a 7/5 indestructible creature on turn four if you've managed to hit solid mana drops the first three turns of the game. Even if you haven't, there's a good chance you'll be able to transform it into a creature and attack on your fifth turn, especially if your deck runs heavy color-intensive threats such as Boros Reckoner or a Rakdos, Lord of Riots.
It's Mogis, God of Slaughter's heavy hitting global ability that can potentially inflict a lot of damage to your opponent over the course of a long game. They'll need to choose between taking two damage or sacrificing a creature each turn. In an aggressive deck, Mogis, God of Slaughter can be brutal because your opponent won't want to give up blockers, quickly accruing the damage. What's more interesting is that Mogis, God of Slaughter punishes control players because its ability isn't a choose either this or that: If they don't have a creature to sacrifice they'll take two damage. Just hope your rival doesn't have an Elspeth, Sun's Champion or Assemble the Legion to spit out tokens with.
Yu suggests running Desecration Demon alongside Mogis, God of Slaughter to punish your adversary harder. Enchantments like Underworld Connections, Hammer of Purphoros, and Whip of Erebos can help you maintain a high devotion even if your enemy is packing board sweepers like Supreme Verdict.
How will you use Mogis, God of Slaughter?
