Outstanding Comedy Series
Where are you going to put your latest Emmys?
Eric Stonestreet (co-star): The producers and writers get the trophies in this case. They're probably running out of room. Steve?
Steve Levitan (executive producer): I do find it strange that our cast [doesn't get an Emmy in this category]. We're going to start giving them away. Wouldn't it be great if each of our cast members got a trophy from each of these wins? Because of course, they play as big a role in this as anybody.
Sofia, what is the team that puts you together for events like the Emmy Awards?
Sofia Vergara (co-star): Well, this time, I did it myself, actually. I teamed with Lorraine Schwartz for the jewelry. And Vera Wang [for the dress], because I wanted to wear something red and with lace, and she sent me the sketch, and I loved it. And Lorraine, I always liked Colombian emeralds, so she designed this subtle set of jewelry for me. And Kmart Collection underwear again, of course.
"Modern Family" has now won the Emmy Award four times in the category for Outstanding Comedy Series. "Frasier" holds the record, with five Emmys in this category. "The Dick Van Dyke Show," "All in the Family" and "Cheers" have each won four times. Do you have any thoughts on that?
Levitan: Obviously, we are beyond humbled to be mentioned alongside those shows. For me, personally, I grew up watching "The Dick Van Dyke Show" on WGN in Chicago. Reruns were on every day. And it's the reason I wanted to become a comedy writer: because I wanted to sit in that office with Buddy and Sally, and do this for a living. So it is quite amazing.
"Cheers" is one of my all-time favorite shows. And "All in the Family" as well. So to be even mentioned alongside those shows (and I mean that from the bottom of my heart), it's mind-blowing and extremely humbling for all of us.
