Modern Event Deck announced

See also

January looks to be a big, big month of announcements in the Magic world - not only did we see the announcement of Magic 2015 with all the changes to come with it, not only are we getting Born of the Gods previews next week, but today one small surprise bombshell was dropped on the mothership in the form of the announcement for the exactly-what-it-says-on-the-tin Modern Event Deck.

Get started with the deep-strategy Modern format in style! Draw on rare, high-powered Magic cards from past sets with this tightly constructed 60-card deck. Also includes a 15-card sideboard, strategy guide, Spindown life counter, 80 exclusive card sleeves, 5 double-sided tokens, and a deck box.

We are excited to introduce a new deck product to support the Modern format. This is meant to be in-line with the Event Decks we have released for specific sets except this is not set-specific and is for Modern rather than for Standard.

Ben Hayes came up with the decklist for this alone, and the product is due out May 30 for an MSRP of $74.99, a steep price tag unless the mana base, for example, is particularly stellar. Details are otherwise nonexistent - what is the list going to be like (besides full of OP cards)? What will the print run be (likely small, much like Modern Masters was)? All in all whatever it is will probably make enough of a splash in Modern to throw established Modern pros for a loop.
