On Wednesday night's episode of “Modern Dads,” about the four Austin, Texas fathers who are stay-at-home dads. As the episode titled “On the Juice” opens, the dads are at their favorite meeting place at Pease Park. Rick confesses that he used to run marathons, but since the twins showed up, he is now fat and out of shape from eating leftovers his kids would not eat.
Stone is a veteran to juicing and suggests that Rick give it a try. One thing Rick asks; will it make him evacuate his bowels immediately? Stone tells him that it will help, but the process will be a bit slower.
At home with Sean, he and Rachel are having an intimate moment in the kitchen, as the girls overhear them and know they are headed to the bedroom. There is no way they can pull this off while the girls are awake, because Rachel makes too much noise.
Rick and Stone go shopping for fresh fruits and vegetables for his juicing escapade. Stone gets a call from Nathan, and they make a bet that Rick will not lose three pounds in three days with this diet. Stone knows that three pounds on Rick are easily attainable, and almost taste Nate’s $20.
Sean calls Nate and wants to soundproof their bedroom. Nate agrees to come over to help. As Nate is in the living room, Sean tests the acoustics in the room, and Nate can hear him like they were next to each other. So he certainly needs help with soundproofing.
As Rick searches the messy garage, he finds the juicer that is still in the box; a wedding present. Stone sees the picture of slimmed down Rick, the marathoner and knows that he can accomplish this task. The first concoction comes out a bloody red color as Rick just grimaces at its sight. Stone tells him to drink it down and has in a drink with him. Later, Rick is full of energy and cannot believe how good he feels with just one glass of juice in him. Rick’s boys are home from school, and all four kids help him work out.
In the store, Sean and Nate shop for items to help Sean’s cause, but Nate has trouble feeling sorry for Sean’s dilemma. They return home with lots of egg crate wall coverings. As they test out the sound, it does not seem to have changed much, and Rachel knows that although Sean is an excellent father, he is no Bob the Builder.
Rick, Nate and Stone are shooting baskets in the park, and Nate wants to go for burgers after the session. He is trying to convince Rick to eat, so he can win the bet. Rick is teetering on the edge, not knowing about the bet, but has to make a run, yes run, to the bathroom while the guys finish their burgers. Finally, at home, Rick is hanging with the kids and making more juice, when his wife walks in with three pizzas.
Sean found a solution to his problem; he backs a camper trailer onto the front yard. Which will now be their escape, but will it be a complete problem-solver? As the girls are doing their homework in the dining room; they wonder how long it will take them to do yoga this time?
Rick finally succumbed to the pizza, but he did eat the one with the vegetables; last time Stone was spotted, he was giving Nate $20 on this episode of “Modern Dads.”
