Glass of Wine a Day May Ward Off Depression, Study Suggests.
A Spanish study has suggested, in the same manner in which a little wine may be good for the heart, it might also help avoid depression. The study authors have contended that while drinking a lot of wine or other alcohol may be a sign of depression or other mental health problems, alcohol in moderation may very well benefit mental health. Lead researcher Dr. Miguel Martinez-Gonzalez has said, "One drink a day, preferentially wine, may help prevent depression."
LiveScience has also reported on this study which has suggested enjoying several glasses of wine each week may not only protect your heart, it may also help protect your mental health.
Spanish researchers have found drinking moderate amounts of alcohol, especially wine, was linked with a lower risk of depression. The study revealed older men and women who consumed two to seven small glasses of wine weekly were 32 percent less likely to suffer from depression in comparison with people who never drank alcohol.
