Women Rejoice! Stick-thin is going out of style, thanks to models such as Kate Upton, the winner of the 2013 Model of the Year Award.
Ms. Upton’s personal trainer is Justin Gelband who created a workout routine known as ModelFIT. The program consists of Zumba, martial arts and functional training capoeira, Pilates and Yoga. Gelband’s other clients include Victoria Secret’s Erin Heatherton, Candice Swanepoel and Lily Aldridge. Classes run about 45-50 minutes each and Kate is said to workout at least five days a week before a shoot.
Gelband also counsels clients on the appropriate “ModelFIT” diet, which limits carbs and sugars, salt, and alcohol. Kate is said to focus on proteins, oatmeal and salad, but stays away from red meat because she doesn’t like it.
“Since the first day I met her, she wanted to come in and change the industry by saying curves are sexy,” Gelband says of Kate Upton. “She’s such a great role model for all the young girls out there.”
Of her work ethic, Gelband says of the 21-year-old, “She would put in seven days a week if I let her. She knows how to get it done.”
Kate Upton represents healthy women in an industry that, in the past, has encouraged some very unhealthy practices all in the name of being thin. Upton tells Vogue, “I can work out and I can stay healthy, but I can’t change some things. I really just live my life. I love my body.”
