You would think with all the information that is available on the internet for free that models would know what is expected of them at go-sees. There are countless videos, blogs, books and agency sites such as these; eHow.com, ChanelBlueSatin video and blog, InstantCast and books like Face This by Shelley Goodstein.
This will be a 3 part series covering the basics of castings or “go-see” for models and anyone aspiring to model. We will start from the top.
Model make-up at go-sees should be clean and natural looking. The makeup needs to enhance and show off your features. Skin should appear smooth and even in tone. Eyes should have light liner and defined eyebrow. This is very important make sure your brows are not over tweezed or waxed. Cheeks can have some blush, do not go overboard, or bronzer. Lips can have color but I prefer a neutral lip with gloss. As a model your face is just as important as your walk, come as a clean slate so the designer, photographers and casting agents can see you in their vision.
Go-see hair is plain; there is no other way to put it. A simple ponytail, topknot, or loose behind the ears will do the trick. The designers, photographers and agents want to see your face, so do not cover it; pull your hair back so they can see your features clearly. Hats, headbands, glasses or anything that will distract from the face are not recommended. That distraction could cost you the job.
