The news has reported recently of mobs burning Ye Olde London Towne, flash mobs targeting beach-goers in the Windy City of Chicago, and fair-goers being robbed in The Brew City, Milwaukee. Does this news spell trouble for fair-goers in Knoxville?
The Tennessee Valley Fair* will begin September ninth at Chilhowee Park in downtown Knoxville. Fair-goers will be traveling through areas that are not known for the lowest crime rates in the area. So a word of caution is in order.
First, always be aware of your surroundings. If things start looking wrong, get out of Dodge, now!
Carrying a firearm or other weapon is not legal in Knoxville City Parks (Chapter 20. Article III. Sec. 20-60) , so you are basically required to be unarmed when visiting the fair. You should, at least, not go alone, and preferably have several companions.
There has already been a flash mob event** in Knoxville, and fortunately, it was benign. But the operative word in flash mob is mob, and mobs can have a mind of their own.
So, always be vigilant, and avoid trouble when you can. And if you live in or around Knoxville, you should lobby the Knoxville City Council to rescind the Jim Crow ordinance mentioned above.
Why should the right to personal defense be prohibited in the City of Knoxville, in contrast with Knox County?
