Monday evening, January 25, Mobile Monday held its third annual Demo Night in Center City Philadelphia. The sold out event was held at the Cira Centre. If large turnout and wild enthusiasm are strong indicators of mobility's relevance in the region, then mobility is alive and well in Philadelphia.
Following the lead of the hot mobile service twitter, presentations were kept under five minutes. Prior to demonstrations, Councilman Bill Green delivered an impassioned keynote on the significance of innovation, entrepreneurialism, and start ups in the Philadelphia region.
Turning to the main event, ten local businesses in the mobility space showed the audience their offerings. While the range of products and services were diverse, they all had in common that they are driven off of mobile technology devices. The audience voted for their favorites by using their own mobile devices. Voting was accomplished by going to the Yorn Live website. Despite being in alpha mode, Yorn also tabulated the results. The winner, Venmo, played to the sentiment of the crowd by having their demonstration push donations to a Haiti initiative. The mobile businesses that provided demos were:
- 2WAYTXT
- AirClic
- CLEAR
- Liquid Interactive
- Mobile Attainment
- PlaySay
- ReadySetWork
- Snac
- Venmo
- Yuxi Pacific Group
