Every year the city of Mobile has a celebration called Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras is also celebrated in New Orleans. Mardi Gras usually falls in the month of February and sometime around the first week or two of the month.
Every year that Mardi Gras is celebrated the Mobile Fire Rescue Department has multiple roles that its employees take part in.
The Mobile Fire Rescue Department provides EMT’S on bike teams, rescue units for transports and medical emergencies, and fire trucks to bring up the rear of every parade that hits the streets of the historic district of Downtown Mobile.
This year during Mardi Gras was no different than years past and engine 19 had parade duty to bring up the rear of the parade that started at 12 noon on Monday 20, 2012.
The parade started on time at 12 noon and all the floats, bands, and engine 19 made way through the parade route that lasted about an hour and a half from start to finish.
Mardi Gras ends on Tuesday February 21, 2012 and the Catholic tradition of Lent begins on Wednesday February 22, 2012.
