Mo Williams supports hiring of former coach

The recent hiring of Mike Brown, the new head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers’ crosstown rival Los Angeles Lakers, received mixed responses by fans and NBA aficionados—some praised the move while others were left flummoxed.  However, it's no surprise that Clippers point guard Mo Williams supported the hiring of his former coach.

He publicly praised the move viaTwitter once he got hold of the news.

Congrats to mike brown... Lakers won't be sorry for that hiring

Most recently, Williams told the LA Times during a phone interview that Brown is more than capable of taking command of a high-profile team like the Lakers.

“There’s going to be pressure on him,” said Williams.  “But he’s dealt with pressure for five years in Cleveland, so pressure is nothing new to him.  The pressure in Cleveland has prepared him for the ultimate pressure of coaching the Lakers.”

Brown coached Williams for two seasons prior to his dismissal by the Cavaliers in 2010.  Williams was quick to point out that Brown was an integral part in making the Cavaliers a perennial playoff contender in the Eastern Conference during his five-season coaching tenure.

“His departure was the biggest loss that we had outside of LeBron (James),” said Williams.  “I thought he had his footprint on that organization and on our team.  Defensively, I can’t think of anyone better.

“I think it’s a great hire.  Mike Brown in my opinion is one of the top coaches in the NBA.”
