It appears that Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) may be getting ready for yet another budget fight and subsequent government shutdown since, like many of his allies, he has chosen to preemptively blame Democrats for the event.
Brooks made his remarks during an appearance on The Steve Malzberg Show, originally to reiterate his warning to Americans not to use the Healthcare.gov website because of cyber-security problems and a risk of identity theft.
The discussion gradually shifted to the possibility of a budget deal. Brooks responded that if one is not reached, it will be because the Democrats have intentionally orchestrated a government shutdown in an attempt to distract voters from "the calamity known as Obamacare" heading into the 2014 elections.
Brooks even suggested that the Democrats might even start a war as a distraction.
"They need a shutdown, they need something dramatic - perhaps a war - something that will deflect public attention from how bad this socialized medicine system is, this scheme that they have put forth."
It's bewildering how members of Congress can even come up with hair-brained ideas like that. Unless he's suggesting that's what Republicans would do were they in control of the Senate.
