There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the Measles Mumps Rubella (MMR) vaccine over the years. Many opponents claim that there is a link between MMR vaccine and autism; a disorder that is characterized, for example, by impaired communication skills and repetitive behavior. Surprisingly, it looks like the federal government’s “vaccine court” may agree with them.
Vaccine Court. Recently, a ruling was passed concerning the matter. A child by the name of Ryan Mojabi and his family were awarded nearly a million dollars because they were able to prove that an MMR vaccine was the cause of a confirmed diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It was proven that Ryan was stricken with encephalitis 5-15 days after receiving the MMR vaccine. His parents say that his encephalopathy manifested as “neuroimmunological mediated dysfunction in the form of asthma and ASD.” The US Department of Health and Human services agree fully with the court’s decision and believes,"This case is appropriate for compensation."
Pediatrician Questions Vaccine Safety. Although most mainstream pediatrians and other healthcare providers assert that vaccines are completely safe, a few doctors are beginning to question the safety of vaccines and the MMR vaccine in particular. In an article published on her website, Dr. Cornelia Franz, a pediatrician practicing in Orlando, Florida expresses her concern about the MMR vaccine and believes there may be a connection between MMR and autism. “I believe it is the number of vaccines given at the same time that begins the negative domino effect leading to Autistic Spectrum Disorder.”
