MMA legend Bas Rutten belts out Justin Bieber tune during Invicta FC 4 stream

Bloody Elbow writer Steph Daniels tweeted on Jan. 5 that MMA legend Bas Rutten sang a Justin Bieber song during the Invicta FC 4 online stream.

"Bas singing Bieber just made my night," Daniels wrote.

When Bieber's anthemic "Beauty and a Beat" came on over the P.A. system at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. during the Invicta FC 4 stream, Rutten surprised everyone in attendance and listening from their home computers by belting out a few lines of the song, before declaring "I love that song 'You Smile, I Smile.'"

Rutten also sang snippets of a Rage Against the Machine tune, and several other Invicta FC 4 walkout songs, much to the delight of fans listening at home.

His off-the-cuff color commentary provided a perfect balance to teammate Julie Kedzie's professional, serious tone.

Rutten, 47, brought a wealth of experience to the mic, as he was the veteran voice of Pride FC for several years before heading over to do color commentary work for several other MMA organizations. Rutten is one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all-time, having won 13 of his 33 pro MMA bouts by way of knockout.

Rutten stepped in for veteran Invicta FC color commentator Mauro Ranallo.

“Bas Rutten will be stepping in for Mauro and will being doing commentary along with Julie Kedzie and Mo Lawal for this event,” Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp said.

Ranallo missed the event due to conflicts with travel arrangements, as he was doing color commentator work for the Dream promotion in another country.

No word yet if Rutten will be back in the broadcast booth for Invicta FC 5.
