USA Today posted a video yesterday asking some of the top MMA fighters about the possibility of WWE superstar CM Punk entering the Mixed Martial Arts world in the future. Speculation on the former WWE Champion getting into fight sports have been heating up in the last few weeks after his controversial walkout on WWE on January 27th.
UFC fighter Uriah Faber who appeared in the video said that MMA was “not a popularity contest” but said that he would like to see Punk give it a shot. “From all the guys who have trained with him, they say he’s very talented” noted fighter Kenny Florian. “I think he can do it. If you are an athlete, and you're willing to dedicate yourself , I think he can do it and do it well.” said Fox Sports MMA analysts Brian Stann. You can watch the entire video posted above this article.
Punk recently appeared at the UFC on FOX 10 card in his hometown, Chicago on January 25th which was the night before his last WWE match at the Royal Rumble pay per view and two nights before his pre-RAW walkout. For the past several years, Punk has trained in Brazilian Jujitsu with the famed Gracie family and is die-hard fan of MMA. With this course of events, fight fans are starting to see if the Second City Saint will be entering the Octagon anytime in the foreseeable future.
Pro Wrestling Examiner’s Perspective: CM Punk with serious training and the same determination he has displayed in the world of pro wrestling, could have success in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. Now does that he mean he could swing with the best-of-em in the UFC in his first fight? That is a bigger question, that is much harder to answer. No matter what Punk's future holds, WWE is moving on without him. Check out this article analyzing how WWE is making moves after his abrupt exit.
