MMA fighter with 1-34 record finally decides to get some real training in

According to a Feb. 4 report from MMA Junkie, Kenneth Allen has finally decided to get some real training in after losing 34 of his 35 MMA fights.

Allen, 33, has lost 22 fights in a row, but his efforts have been better than his record would indicate.

Allen is a decent striker and can hang with anyone when the fight stays standing. He's also a superb wrestler who has no problem shooting for takedowns.

His problem is that a lack of BJJ experience costs him when his fights hit the mat.

“All the fights I’ve lost, I’ve never been knocked out,” Allen said. “It’s basically just a training issue. I didn’t have time to train. I graduated from college in December of 2010. I was planning on training hard and fighting, but I ended up doing other stuff for work. But if someone calls me to fight, I don’t have the common sense to say no.

"I have no problem getting in the cage and fighting one-on-one with anybody. Whether I’m in shape or not, I feel like I’ve always got a chance. There’s no fight where you can see me just getting dominated, getting the hell beat out of me. There weren’t but three or four of those fights that I felt like I couldn’t legitimately win.”

Iowa Challenge promoter and matchmaker Chad Bergmeier keeps giving Allen the opportunity to fight because he's so reliable.

Allen always shows up and puts on a good show for the fans, regardless of a win or loss.

“If I’ve got a fight coming up this weekend and one of my guys is hurt and he was supposed to fight a guy that’s a big ticket-seller, I’ve got to keep that guy on the card. At this level, ticket sales are everything," Bergmeier said. "We don’t have major sponsors. They just aren’t out there. You’ve got a UFC every other weekend, and it’s just not like it was in the late ’90s or the mid-2000s. You’ve got to keep that ticket-seller on the card.

"And if you need a guy who’s 170 or 185 [pounds], you could call Kenneth Allen and tell him you have a spot you need to fill, and he’d say, ‘How much and when?’ You tell him what you can afford to pay him, and he’ll show up and fight hard.”

No word yet on when Allen fights again. However, he's well-known for taking fights on short notice.

While that might be part of why his overall record is so terrible, Allen has no plans to change his ways.

“If they called me tomorrow and said they needed someone this weekend, I’d be there," he said.
