Former Invicta FC disc jockey DJ Dezie said on Sept. 24 in an exclusive interview with Long Island MMA Examiner Eric Holden that she's no longer in a relationship with Jillian Lybarger, as she's now committed to Massachusetts-based striker Kaline "The Dark Angel" Medeiros.
Dezie, who rose to fame by DJ'ing several Invicta FC events, took a few minutes out of her busy schedule to answer some questions about her new relationship, along with other topics about her life. Here's what she had to say:
Q. You were in a relationship with standout MMA fighter Jillian Lybarger for a while. What happened with that?
Dezie: Jillian and I were not dating, we had a commitment ceremony on Nov. 11, 2012. About three months later there was a very violent altercation that landed Jillian in jail. She was arrested for battery and I ended up in the ER. Since then we have both moved on, and although I would not say we are on speaking terms, I wish her the best in her new life.
Q. Oh wow I'm sorry that happened to you. What happened during the altercation?
Dezie: There's really no reason to go into detail. I was hesitant to speak on it the last six months, but at this point it's public record and most of the MMA community knows. I don't really feel like specific details are necessary.
Q. As I understand it, Invicta FC didn't bring you back for DJ duties shortly after that incident. Did their decision have anything to do with that altercation with Lybarger, or was it a completely separate reason why they didn't bring you back?
Dezie: I was told that it was do to cost, flying in a DJ from Vegas with my minimum salary requirement is much more costly than hiring a local DJ. I would be severely disappointed if Invicta had chosen sides or anything like that. I can't imagine either Shannon or Janet doing that. Especially with their stand against domestic violence.
Q. So are you done with Invicta FC events for good, or do you think you'll return to their DJ booth someday?
Dezie: Who knows what the future holds?
Q. So now you're dating a fighter from Rhode Island. Hows that going for you? What's her story?
Dezie: I am. Her name is Kaline Medeiros, she lives in Massachusetts, but she's making history as the main event for CES as the first female MMA match in Rhode Island. She also had WMMA knockout of the year last year vs Stephanie Eggink . She's an amazing woman, with a truly genuine, caring, beautiful heart, and I'm very lucky to have her in my life.
Q. Good stuff. So what else is going on in your life these days?
Dezie: I have found a new home as the resident DJ at Level 107 Lounge at the Stratosphere, am still DJing for different MMA promotions (you know I'm the #mmaDJ!) ! I am also really looking forward to the Walk Now for Autism Speaks event November 2, here in Vegas. As you know I'm very active with that organization on behalf of my beautiful son Phoenix. Besides that, I'm just enjoying life with my amazing children, blessed with a great career, and have an incredible woman at my side. Life is good.
Q. Where can fans find you on social media?
Dezie: Check me out on Twitter at @Faveladydj. PS #beatsbydezie!!
