This week, MLS made a good show in the first home leg of the CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinals, setting the stage for dramatic second away legs next week.

Sporting Kansas City defeated Liga MX leader Cruz Azul 1-0, the Los Angeles Galaxy beat Tijuana 1-0 and San Jose Earthquakes drew 1-1 with Toluca.

March 13, Kevin Ellis scored an early goal for Sporting KC, who will rematch Cruz Azul on March 19 in Mexico City, but without left back Seth Sinovic, who is suspended after his second yellow card.

Also on March 13, new Brazilian striker Samuel scored the winning goal for the Galaxy, who now will travel to Estadio Caliente for the rematch this Tuesday. Americans Herculez Gomez, Greg Garza and Joe Corona came off the bench for Tijuana.

On March 12, Alan Gordon leveled the score 1-1 in stoppage for San Jose, who will rematch Toluca on the road next week.
