Produced by Funko, collectible toys based off the characters of the hit Hasbro cartoon “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” has resulted in some hot toys and collector's items--with perhaps the exception of Walmart's "My Little Pony" shirts. The first taste of these toys came courtesy of the Comic-Con 2012 Special Edition Pony (unofficially named Derpy by “My Little Pony” fans and Bronies). Those unable to get Derpy at Comic-Con eventually found themselves lucky to buy a mass-produced version of her (as Bubbles) as well as a vinyl figurine of one of the Mane 6 characters Rainbow Dash at Hot Topic for about $15. With the great success of “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” as a cartoon and merchandising boom, Hot Topic and Funko will soon add two more collectible toys to their “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” roster. Pre-orders area already accepted online and stores are apt to stock them as early as March.
New to the “My Little Pony” toy stable is Dr. Whooves (or Dr. Hooves or Time Turner), whose resemblance to the titular protagonist of the “Doctor Who” franchise is probably intentional. As described by Hasbro in its associated “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” Ponyville game, this pony features an hourglass cutie mark and either a green or red necktie as he takes care of all things “timey-wimey.” Also added to the stable is another one of the Mane 6 characters Fluttershy. Fluttershy is a Pegasus-type pony like Derpy and Rainbow Dash with a yellow body, butterflies for a cutie-mark, and a kind demeanor as part of her representing the element of kindness. Both Funko figures sell for about $16.50 each unless they’re on sale. As an added random bonus, one out of every 24 Dr. Whooves and Fluttershy ponies sold will be a sparkly clear chase figure variant” that look different and likely be considered rare or more valuable to toy collectors.
