Michael A. Walrond, Jr., (left photo) will be the keynote speaker and host of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Tribute program at Riverside Church, Sunday, January 19, 2pm in the Nave (490 Riverside Drive, between 120th & 122nd streets, Morningside Heights). Pastor Mike, as he is affectionately known, is the Senior Pastor of Harlem’s First Corinthian Baptist Church. The Morehouse College grad, Duke University Minister & Director of African American Campus Ministry, and former Senior Pastor of North Carolina’s Zion Temple United Church of Christ in Durham, will lead a program of words and song called: “Realizing the Dream: A Call to Conscience.”

The other key speakers will include Martin Luther King, lll, Dr. King’s oldest child; The Rev. Dr. James Forbes, Riverside Church Senior Minister Emeritus; attorney William Wachtel; and Rev. Dr. Serene Jones, President, Union Theological Seminary. Performances will feature “Let Justice Roll,” by Mark Miller, accompanied by the Riverside Inspirational Choir and the Ebony Ecumenical Ensemble

Dr. King preached many times from NYC’s Riverside Church pulpit. King gave his famous “Beyond Vietnam” speech there exactly one year before his tragic assassination. In that speech he condemned the “triple evils of racism, economic exploitation and militarism,” on April 4, 1967.
