MLK Day of Service in St. Louis and free lesson plan downloads

Martin Luther King Day is celebrated on Monday, January 16 this year.  To help bring the message of freedom and equality home, and on a level even a child can understand, the day has been dubbed Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.  If you are not already involved in a community project, you can locate one in the St. Louis area through the mlkday.gov website.  Just plug in your zip code and begin your search.

Before you head out to perform your day of service, add some fun to your child's learning of the history that surrounds MLK Day:

Read the entire "I Have a Dream Speech", and make a black and white art collage (from the holiday zone).

Download worksheets from Worksheet Library (you can get a free acrostic of the word DREAM).  Others are for a small charge to download.

Head to your nearest St. Louis area library and check out a book about Martin Luther King, Jr. and his dream.  Find a list of books appropriate for children at The Holiday Zone.

Enjoy your fun learning, and enjoy your freedom in equality.
