The MLK Day 2014 sales and deals have been going on since this past weekend, with some of the biggest names in retail offering discounts on items. Among them are department store chains like Kohl’s, Sears and Macy’s, as well as clothing stores such as Gap, Old Navy, Express and more. There’s also freebies that were mentioned for some fast food restaurants, in addition to the latest info of what’s closed for MLK Day 2014.

A Holiday Gift Nation report on Jan. 20 indicates that one of the major items on sale today is the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX tablet. The tablet is normally $229, but is offered for a reduced price of $199 today, making it $30 off. A special code is necessary at checkout in order to get the deal, which is a limited-time offer. It’s not the first time Amazon has offered this sort of deal, but certainly will give an early gift for those looking for Valentine’s Day tech items to give, or even a birthday or Super Bowl gift.

Other MLK day promotions include Banana Republic offering 40% off purchase online with the code “BRSAVE40,” Kohl’s giving 20% off orders of $100 or more with the code “SNOW,” and Macy’s offering 15% off everything with the code “WKND.” Macy’s has also been advertising an in-store sale for the next few days. Clothing stores including Express, Gap and Old Navy each have promotions as well that are for 20% off or more. Some of the mentioned sales deals may have only been extended through the weekend, so it’s best to check with the retailer’s site for more details. Burger King was offering a free coffee to patrons ordering a breakfast sandwich, while Papa John’s and Dominos each had deals on their pizza available. See more details here.

As for MLK Day 2014 closings, these could vary from state to state. The stock market is closed in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, while most banks are closed, although their websites and ATM’s should be open. There is no mail delivery scheduled for the holiday, with delivery set to resume on Tuesday.

Roanoke, Virginia residents can see various offices and services closed for the day at the WSLS 10 site here.
