The MLB playoffs 2013 live stream and TV coverage continues on Wednesday, Oct. 2 with an American League wildcard matchup. In the latest game, the Tampa Bay Rays visit the Cleveland Indians, with the winner getting to move on to the first round on Friday. One team is placing their chances with a strong rookie pitcher, while the other will go with one of their seasoned stars. Tonight's TV and live stream MLB playoffs game is presented via TBS and MLB subscription services.
On Oct. 2, the Washington Post provides a preview of the upcoming game, and noted that the two managers behind this teams are arguably the best managers in all of the American League this past season. Terry Francona has helped guide Cleveland to their first winning record since 2007, and could follow up that success with a big playoff push. Tampa Bay's Joe Maddon has helped the Rays make the playoffs four times over the past six years, and could once again help guide them there this year with a win.
Of note, these two teams have rather even percentages in terms of getting on base and slugging. The Rays hold stats of .329 on-base percentage and .408 slugging percentage. Meanwhile, the Indians have stats of .327 and .410 for on-base and slugging, respectively. Among the big hitters for the two teams are Nick Swisher and Michael Bourn, both of whom the Indians signed this past season. Of course, Evan Longoria of the Rays has been an All-Star multiple times in his career and will look to put on another star performance to help his team advance.
In terms of pitching, Francona will send rookie Danny Salazar to the mound tonight, making just his eleventh appearance in his MLB career. Salazar notably does not pitch deep into games, with only one of his outings going beyond six innings. It may be up to the Indians' bullpen to keep things under control.
On the other side, Tampa Bay will start a more proven pitcher in Alex Cobb, who has continued to pitch in excellent fashion since sustaining a concussion in a game against Kansas City. Cobb sports an overall record of 11-3, with an ERA of 2.76 this season in 22 starts. In his nine starts since returning from the disabled list, Cobb went 5-1 with a 2.41 ERA. Basically, Cobb has been brilliant despite taking a line drive to his head against the Royals.
However, the Indians have been one of the hottest late-season stories in MLB, winning ten straight games to get here. Over the season series, the teams are tied at 3-3, making this an interesting matchup. Odds makers, have given the Rays a slight edge at -113, while the Indians are underdogs of +103. The over/under sits at 7 combined runs at many sports books, as of this report. Expect temperatures in the low 80's under fair skies with the wind blowing out towards center field at 5-10 mph tonight.
Wednesday night's meeting between the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Indians has a scheduled start time of 8:07 p.m. EST. TBS will present televised coverage of the game on cable and satellite services around the nation. In addition, there is the MLB Postseason TV online subscription service that fans can pay for to watch the game live streaming online. This service presents an alternate viewing angle or perspective of the game different than that shown on the telecast. See more information here at MLB website.
