The MLB playoffs 2013 live stream and TV schedule brings forth an intriguing Game 5 from the remaining NLDS matchup. Two teams are vying to move on for a chance to play the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series (NLCS) starting Friday. To get there, the Pittsburgh Pirates or St. Louis Cardinals will need to win a deciding Game 5, with the series tied at 2-2. The Pirates vs. Cardinals NLDS Game 5 will be televised and live streaming MLB playoffs on Wednesday courtesy of TBS and the MLB website service.
According to an STL Today report on Oct. 9, tonight's starting pitcher for this important Game 4 will be Adam Wainright. Wainright has modeled his pitching style after another ace in Chris Carpenter, and said Carpenter was "always my measuring stick" during a press conference recently. Over the past season, Wainright has gone 19-9 with 219 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.94, lower than his career number of 3.11. He faced the Cards before limiting them to three hits and a run over 7 innings pitched in a Game 1 victory. That included 9 strikeouts, but also a home run given up to Pedro Alvarez in the fifth inning.
Wainright told the media that originally being a bullpen backup pitcher has payed off greatly for him, including facing a big pressure situation back in Game 7 of the NLCS against the Mets in 2006. Wainright said:
"I definitely would not be where I am today without that bullpen experience. … There are a lot of valuable lessons learned in the urgency of each pitch, going out there and getting a guy out one time like it’s going to be the last time you ever faced him. That’s the mentality that I took into starting.
That’s the mentality that works for me."
On the other side for the underdog Pittsburgh Pirates will be rookie pitcher Gerrit Cole, who earned a win in Game 2 to get the Pirates back on track. Cole gave up just two hits in six innings, and added an RBI for his team in that particular matchup. It shows that the Pittsburgh franchise is putting great stock in this rookie, who went 10-7 over the past season with a 3.22 ERA and 100 strikeouts.
Cole talked about his emotions heading into the pressure of trying to earn the win and hold the Cardinals back from advancing from this pivotal game in St. Louis. According to ESPN, Cole told the media:
"This is obviously an exciting time, a high-pressure situation, and you know, this is what you prepare for all year,. Yeah, it's extremely exciting, and I can't wait."
Odds makers have given the Cardinals the role of favorites here with home field advantage on their side, and the experience of advancing in these situations before. Various books have the Cards priced at -160 or so, while the underdog Pirates carry a line of about +145 or higher. The over/under is set at just 6 1/2 runs combined between the two teams, likely because of the two pitchers involved. Game temps in St. Louis should be in the low 70's under clear skies, perfect October weather for a Game 5 playoff situation.
