The MLB playoffs 2013 live stream and televised coverage has provided plenty of great games so far in the postseason, and tonight a series deadlocked at 1-1 will see one team regain command. The Pirates bounced back in St. Louis after a humiliating loss to the Cardinals, so now they'll have home field advantage and a chance to take a 2-1 lead as the underdogs. The Cards will look to get back on track behind one of their star pitchers, but Pittsburgh will feature one of their own. The latest MLB live streaming playoffs game will be televised and online thanks to TBS and MLB website.
A Pirates MLB.com report from Oct. 5 notes that Francisco Liriano gets the start for the home team Pittsburgh Pirates today, and the stats are in his favor. Liriano has gone 8-1 overall with a 1.47 ERA over 11 home starts this past season. That includes two wins against these very St. Louis Cardinals, who exploded for a big win in Game 1, and then were defeated at home for Game 2. The series is now evened at 1-1, with the Pirates getting the next two games at home.
Liriano told the media about his mind state heading into Game 3 at PNC Park, saying:
"I think I've been able to execute pitches and have good location here, and the guy behind me makes some great plays for me here. Just be under control, not try to do too much. Just be more consistent with the strike zone, and like I said, not try to do too much. That's the whole key for me is trying not to overthrow."
Over the course of the 2013 season, Liriano went 16-8 with a 3.02 ERA and 163 strikeouts. His most recent victory was against the Reds in the Pirates 6-2 victory in their wildcard playoff game which helped Pittsburgh advance to this NLDS matchup with the Cards. The 29-year-old lefty from the Dominican Republic had three outings against St. Louis this past season, with all three resulting in Pirates victories. In fact, the Cardinals scored just 3 times in those games compared to the 19 runs for the Pirates. Will Liriano bring that same control today and help the Pirates go up 2-1 in this NLDS matchup?
This past season, the St. Louis Cardinals ranked top four overall in total runs (783), batting average (.269) and on base percentage (.332). They exploded for a 9-1, showing just how powerful a lineup they own in Game 1 at home. In Game 2, it was Pirates' pitching that was the difference maker, as rookie Gerrit Cole kept the Cardinals limited to just two hits over six innings. If Liriano can do the same on Sunday evening, the Cardinals may find themselves in a 2-1 series deficit with their backs against the wall for Game 4.
Sunday's Game 3 featuring the Cardinals vs. Pirates has a start time of 4:30 p.m. EST. TBS will broadcast the game on cable or satellite TV providers around the country.
