MLB: Panama City Native David Herndon Heads to Spring Training

David Herndon, who attended both Mosley High School and Gulf Coast Community College (now Gulf Coast State College) before signing with the Anaheim Angels in 2006, is set to go to Spring training with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Herndon, who was taken by the Phillies in the 2009 Rule 5 Draft, made his major league debut in 2010 and he recorded his first Major League save in the final game of the 2011 regular season.

During his career with the Phillies, Herndon has gone 2-7 with a 3.79 ERA and 68 strikeouts as a reliever.

The Phillies train in Clearwater, Florida during the Spring. Both pitchers and catchers report on February 18 and the first workout is scheduled to take place the next day.

The Phillies pitching staff is considered one of the best in the league, so Herndon will be looking to have a strong Spring in order to solidify his spot on the roster. He will need to continue to induce ground balls, he generated 17 double plays since 2010, in order to remain a valuable part of the bullpen.
