MKE on the rise- March 2014

Welcome to the March edition of MKE On The Rise, the monthly segment where I feature a band, artist or other important element of the Milwaukee local music scene. I apologize to my regular readers that I am a few weeks late in publishing this but...Hey, it was my birthday month. Without any further delay...The March edition of MKE On The Rise. I hope you enjoy.

Milwaukee native rapper Rue The Poet knew from a young age that he wanted to be an entertainer. Always interested in the hip hop culture, he began as a dancer while in high school, drawn to the way people were able to freely express their emotions by moving to the rhythm of the music. Around this same time he was exposed to a diverse range of musical influences by a family that encouraged an appreciation for music of all kinds. This love for music grew as he was exposed to a wider range of music throughout his teenage years.

After a few early attempts behind the mic, Rue went on a hiatus from music completely, having been frustrated with the direction of his art. A brief stay down in Racine caused him to reevaluate his artistic endeavors and upon his return to Milwaukee and a serious conversation with his brother, he underwent an image and a name change and emerged as RueThePoet.

Rue's first feature was the track on Nu Money's mix tape Perc Kodeine and in early 2014 RueThePoet returned to the mic to feature on a track for The Miseducation mix tape by Milwaukee MC Reggie Bonds. RueThePoet's debut solo effort The TruRue Project is due to be released in late Spring of 2014 and one “leaked” track called “The Session” can currently be found floating around the internet if you go to Soundcloud and search for the artist's name. Since early 2014, RueThePoet has been represented by LT Management Group of Milwaukee. In March of 2014, RueThePoet was among a group of Milwaukee's finest to grace the stage with their talents at the first Random Media Distribution show of 2014 and debuted new material during the show as a bonus for those in attendance and many more shows are in the in the future for this hard working artist throughout the rest of 2014.

RueThePoet is definitely one artist among the new generation of Milwaukee's entertainers that should be watched closely. He has rapidly gained a lot of respect within the independent hip hip scene in Milwaukee and has become known for his energetic live performances and dedication to his craft. Be on the look out for The TruRue Project in late Spring of 2014.
