Between 6 and 9 tonight, Shaw Gallery of Fine Art in Bonita Springs is hosting a reception for Leonard Mizerek, an impressionist with an impressive resume.
Mizerek was awarded the position of Artist in Residence at the Museum Yvonne Jean-Haffen in Dinan, France in June of 2006. He spent an intensive month painting the surrounding area and he has returned to Dinan since 2006 to do additional plein air paintings and field studies. "They've invited me back this year," Mizerek said during his show at Shaw Gallery's Naples location in February. "I'm excited to go back. It's a great honor and the area is tremendously picturesque."
He is one of just 15 artists who've been selected to paint at the Forbes Colorado Ranch, and he exhibited at the Forbes Museum in New York, which chose to include his works as part of their permanent collection. He was similarly one of just 23 nationally-recognized contemporary marine artists to exhibit in a three museum exhibition that included the Newport Art Museum, the Maine Maritime Museum and Connecticut River Museum. In addition, his works have been exhibited by the Coos Bay Museum of Fine Art and the Cape Museum of Fine Art.
Mizerek was recently selected as one of 70 members of the prestigious Guild of Boston Artists. He was awarded Fellowship (the highest honor), along with only 22 other artists, by The American Society of Marine Artists. He is also a Signature Artist Member of the New England Watercolor Society, Connecticut Watercolor Society, Northeast Watercolor Society and the International Society of Marine Painters. He has also been elected to the New England Plein Air Painters.
Not surprisingly, Mizerek has attracted attention from some of the nation's leading art publications. He was featured in the February 2011 edition (vol. 64) of American Art Collector magazine and appeard on the cover of the August 2001 edition of American Artist Magazine.
Approximately 50 of his newest paintings will be on display tonight at Shaw Gallery of Fine Art in Bonita Springs. The gallery is located in the Brooks Grand Plaza next to Chops City Grill on the corner of Coconut Road and U.S. 41. In fact, the gallery's back door opens onto Chops' outdoor patio. So why not enjoy a complimentary glass of wine at Shaw Gallery while you take in this marvelous impressionist show in Shaw's gleaming modern gallery and then grab a bite to eat next door at Chops? Complimentary wine, fine art and fine dining; does it get any better than that?
