Shigeru Miyamoto, the man behind Super Mario and Legend of Zelda has announced that he is stepping down from his position in Nintendo. However, his intention is not to retire from the video game industry completely. In an interview with Wired, Miyamoto commented, "I'm not saying that I'm going to retire from game development altogether. What I mean by retiring is, retiring from my current position." From the looks of it, it's as if he does not want the senior development teams and projects to rely on him so much. He wants to pass the torch.
Miyamoto desires to work on smaller projects to help inspire younger developers. He even wouldn't mind creating a project on his own. He already has plans to unveil a new project in the year 2012.
