Mix 105.1's Amp'd Up Saturday Nights
Recently, WOMX-FM Mix 105.1 has skewed their programming to include more newer music in addition to playing a few disco songs here and there. This station covers 4 decades of music, from the 70's, 80's, 90's, and today, which is almost unheard of these days.
Their recent addition of "Amp'd Up Saturday Nights" show from 7pm-12am might be an indicator of what is to come. There are rumors that CBS Radio might flip this station to Top-40 to bring on the CHR (Contemporary Hit Radio) war that they have already started with Clear Channel in the 2 biggest markets - New York & Los Angeles. "Amp Radio 105.1" is already on the HD channel. Could they be tweaking the playlist and doing actual tests before actually launching it on the main FM band?
Back in January 2008, CBS Radio flipped O-Rock 105.9 to today's Sunny 105.9, which includes some of Mix 105.1's library from the 70's & 80's. Could the flip a couple of years ago mean a long-term plan to flip Mix 105.1 into "Amp Radio 105.1"? This would start another "CHR war" between them & Clear Channel's XL106.7. It doesn't happen overnight, so people who are excited about format flips would want to watch this one in the next couple of years to see if anything happens.
