Mixed precipitation Monday

A “mixed Monday” weather event appears to be in the cards for us coming up tomorrow. A fairly potent little area of low pressure will spin up and move east through the region. This will bring a mixed bag of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and plain rain to central Ohio.

Expect mostly cloudy skies and temperatures falling through the 20s this evening. Some breaks in the clouds overnight will allow the temperature to drop into the teens once again. With clouds increasing through the day Monday, temperatures will struggle to make it above 30 degrees before mid-afternoon.

Precipitation will move in from the west between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Monday afternoon. It will begin as snow and then mix with some sleet or freezing rain. Accumulations will not be very high, but there will still be a moderate impact to travel.

The problem lies in the timing for this evening. The evening commute will likely be impacted by an inch of snow and possibly a very light glaze of ice. As temperatures warm above freezing after 6 p.m. the roads should improve. Any leftover snow or freezing rain will transition to all rain. The main precipitation will move out after 9 p.m. and some light snow may linger through midnight. Very light freezing drizzle will be possible late in the overnight period which may cause a few isolated slick spots early Tuesday morning.

Sunshine and high pressure will bring a nice warm up for Tuesday afternoon. High temps will soar into the middle and possibly even upper 40s. A weak cool front will bring a brief dip in the temps back down into the lower 40s for Wednesday. A much stronger weather system will enter the picture on Thursday. This will bring a brief period of very mild weather along with a good bet for rain and isolated thunderstorms.
