Mix 30 different drinks from 5 bottles on New Year's Eve

Wow your friends this New Year’s Eve: allow your inner mixologist to provide thirty festive and colorful cocktails using just five different liquors. You can do this at home – and you don’t have to be a trained professional!

Start with vodka, rum, brandy, tequila, and gin. Line up the bottles and put a glass in front of each one. To each glass add 1 ounce of the liquor from the bottle standing behind the glass, 1/2 ounce lemon juice, 1/2 ounce of Triple Sec, and ice. You have mixed, in this order, a Kamikaze, a Little West End, a Sidecar, a Margarita, and a Frog; these five adult beverages should provide you with some great cocktail conversation.

Want a change out? Using the same setup and a bit of bartending sleight of hand, eliminate the Triple Sec; use Curacao instead, for a blue mood. Or replace the Curacao with Chambord, for festive purple. For the next round, switch the Chambord to Midori and delight your fellow imbibers with festive green in their glasses.

Delete the lemon juice and use orange juice instead, along with a dash of grenadine, for variations on a Screwdriver. And for the final cup, try adding cranberry juice in place of the orange juice, to present your guests with a Cosmopolitan look-alike.

Happy New Year’s Eve and please drink responsibly.
