Mitt Romney supported and donated to Planned Parenthood and is now flip-flopping

It seems that the topic of abortion and a woman's right to choose has become a hot topic once again in the political arena. With the Susan G. Komen Foundation decision to pull funding from Planned Parenthood, an outrage rage occurred. While the religious right spread misinformation about the women and family center of Planned Parenthood, millions across the country made their voices heard. As members of the Komen Foundation started to leave because of the decision against Planned Parenthood, Americans once again put the issue of abortion on the hot seat.

While the radicals on the right claim Planned Parenthood is nothing more than an abortion clinic, the truth is that only 3% of their services involve abortion. Planned Parenthood has helped millions of Americans with pregnancy issues, breast cancer screening, birth control, family planning, STD help as well as many others. The war on Planned Parenthood has become nothing more than the religious right's attempt at forcing their beliefs on America in every way possible. While conservatives scream about the "War on Religion," the reality is that it has become a "War from Religion." While religion is something that should be kept private, to yourself and other who think the way you do, too many people are bringing those religious beliefs out into the public and putting them on people who want no part of it.

As the Republican nominees continue to support the Komen Foundation, one of the candidates has a past that he wishes he didn't exist. Mitt Romney is known for his constant flip-flopping on issues, abortion being one of them, but no one seems to be talking about his past with Planned Parenthood. While Romney was running for Senate in 1994, The Boston Globe reports that Mitt Romney and his wife wrote a check to Planned Parenthood showing their support and even attending a fundraiser. Romney was pro-choice during his time running for Senate and during his time as Governor of Massachusetts, but knowing the radical stance of Republicans on the issue Romney has changed his views in hopes of winning the Republican presidential nominee.

Though Romney's past of supporting Planned Parenthood has been known for years, it's interesting that no one is really talking about it. Is it because Romney is known to flip-flop on so many issues that this would just get lost in the shuffle? It's important that if someone wants to become president of the United States then they must remain consistent on many issues. Everyone is entitled to a change of heart, but is it realistic to change your mind on so many issues that it gets to a point where it seems unrealistic? Mitt Romney might very well become the Republican nominee, but conservatives have shown that they still aren't comfortable with a man who doesn't completely share their values.
