Mitt Romney endorses Marco Rubio, not Charlie Crist
Marco Rubio is on a fast track to becoming Florida’s Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate. This weekend, Massachusetts Governor and former presidential candidate Mitt Romney endorsed Marco Rubio instead of Florida Governor Charlie Crist. Rudy Giuliani endorsed Marco earlier this month and made no qualms about saying that Crist had promised to endorse Giuliani’s presidential bid then failed to do so. Charlie Crist endorsed John McCain instead of Giuliani and Romney, an act they seemingly have not forgotten.
Mitt Romney will appear in Tampa and campaign with Marco Rubio on Monday, April 19, 2010, the Tampa Tribune reports exclusively. The appearance has not been officially announced yet and the tip was provided to the Tribune on the condition of anonymity.
Mitt Romney stated in a release today, “From his humble beginnings as the son of working-class Cuban exiles, Marco Rubio’s meteoric rise – first to Florida Speaker of the House, and now to a candidate for the U.S. Senate – is the embodiment of the American Dream. While I respect Governor Crist, Marco Rubio’s proven record of conservative, principled, and idea-driven leadership is what Florida needs now. Marco Rubio will be a reliable spokesman against the Washington culture of higher spending, higher taxes and higher debt. I am delighted to endorse his campaign and look forward to the contributions he will make in the U.S. Senate,” said Governor Romney.
At the time of the endorsement, many suspect that Charlie Crist is jumping the GOP ship and will announce he’s running as an Independent. If he does, however, he will forfeit all of his current campaign contributions. According to recent Quinnipiac Polls, Charlie Crist trails Marco Rubio and the only chance he has is to switch parties.

I agree with Romney! Marco Rubio in Florida and Nikki Haley in South Carolina!
