By using only 93 octane pump gas, this Mitsubishi Evo is able to achieve 600 whp. This mind boggling number produces an eighth mile trap speed of 99 miles per hour! Thanks to all-wheel drive and a custom build by Top Level Performance, this Evo was granted passport directly into high powered status. Reaching 600 whp is typically found by running race fuel, but with the Top Level Performance modification package you can run 93 octane pump gas and safely execute 600 whp. High levels of boost create heat which leads to detonation and knock, but Top Level Performance has found a way to lower the intake temperatures by increasing the air flow into the motor by use of a special "Boomba" 75mm throttle body.
More air and fuel in and out of the motor creates more power. The faster you can cycle this system, even more power can be generated safely. When air doesn't move quickly through a motor, heat is created which leads to knock. A high performance, turbocharged engine with knock is writing it's own death sentence. To keep these knock levels down and prevent detonation, special modification procedures must be carried out. This typically includes a higher performance intercooler, larger turbo, bigger and faster flowing manifolds, and possible port and polish. These modifications allow the air to travel faster through the engine, which allows ambient air temperatures to cool the motor.
If you are going to run more air, you must run more fuel otherwise the engine will lean out. Fuel also has a cooling affect on the motor, as the fuel has it's own ambient temperature that is thrown into the mix. Consequently by adding more fuel and air, this creates a larger combustion which in turn cycles air more quickly through the engine resulting in more power. It's all linked together, and that's why when building cars for high horsepower like this one you must include supporting mods. It's more than just throwing a turbo on a car and calling it quits. Top Level Performance has perfected this skill and made it available to consumers. Check out this video and enjoy the savory sounds of a Mitsubishi Evo turning out 600 whp on pump gas.
