ELLSWORTH---- It took the Ellsworth Eagles baseball team a while to get going on Saturday afternoon. When they started scoring, they never stopped.

The Eagles scored six runs in the final three innings to pull off a dramatic 6-5 victory in eight innings over the Foxcroft Ponies.

Ellsworth did not get a base-runner until Sid St. Peter led off the fifth inning with a single. The Eagles took advantage of three Ponies errors to score two runs during the sixth inning.

Foxcroft answered quickly, as they put three runs on the scoreboard during the top of the seventh inning. Hunter Law highlighted the inning with his second two run triple of the game.

"Hunter (Law) carried our offense today and gave us a chance to win,"Foxcroft coach Mark Chevalier said. "He has been swinging the bat very well this week, and we look for him to finish the season strong."

Ellsworth scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the game to extra innings. Nick Bagley, Hunter Cote, and Cooper Henderson each had a hit during the inning.

Bagley pitched a scoreless eighth inning to set up the dramatics in the bottom half of the inning. Mitchell Domagala hit a single that scored Brandon Braley to give the Eagles the victory.

Abe Simpson was the tough luck losing pitcher for the Ponies. Simpson retired the first 12 batters he faced, and struck out the side after allowing a lead-off single in the fifth inning. Simpson only allowed three earned runs on eight hits and one walk in his complete game effort. He struck out eight.

"Abe (Simpson) threw the ball extremely well today,"Chevalier said. "He deserved to walk away with a win."

Conor Maguire allowed four earned runs in 6.1 innings pitched for the Eagles. Maguire allowed three walks, five hits, and he struck out nine. Charlie Libby and Bagley pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. Bagley earned the victory. Ellsworth (6-9) will end the regular season with a home game against rival MDI.

Foxcroft (9-6) will finish the regular season with a road game against John Bapst. The Ponies and Crusaders are locked into tournament spots, but will have plenty to play for. John Bapst has a shot for a home prelim game with a victory over the Ponies. Foxcroft will end up finishing somewhere between ninth and 13th in the final standings.

"We need to play our best on Tuesday and find a way to get a win. Every game is huge this time of year,"Chevalier said. "We know John Bapst has the same mindset and will be ready to give us their best."

Hunter Law finished with two of the five hits and four of the five RBI for the Ponies. Brooks Law had the other RBI. Simpson and Nick Decker scored two runs each.
