First things first, I am a proud Pit bull owner and advocate of the breed.
However, I am also a realist. I realize that not everyone shares my same sentiment for this loyal and tumultuous breed. I am slightly tired of people saying that the animal shelters only have pit bulls. Yes, there are quite a lot of Pit bull dogs at the animal shelters here in Los Angeles. There are however, many other breeds that have been mistakenly labeled as Pit Bulls in the shelters as well. Below is a list of dog breeds that are commonly and usually more often than not referred to as Pit bulls rather than what they truly are, especially in shelters. Perhaps if the shelter paid a little more more time to determine a dog's breed, there wouldn't be as many Pit Bulls in the shelter after all. The photo attached is of many different dogs, but not one is a Pit Bull.
As for the list of commonly mistaken for Pit Bull breeds. I compiled a general census from other websites along with my personal experiences. I agree with most however, some more then others. For example, I don't think Rottweilers get mistaken for pit bulls as much as a Alpha Blue Blood Bulldog would.
