Missy Elliott has been noticeably absent from Milwaukee air waves and the music scene in general these last six years. The last time we heard from Missy it was with the release of "The CookBook". One might have simply assumed she was taking a break or just plain falling out of favor with the listeners here in the Midwest, but that's not the case.

Unfortunately Missy has been suffering through an incurable autoimmune disorder called Graves disease. The cause is due to an overactive thyroid. After undergoing radiation therapy and taking medication and even battling weight gain Missy has her condition currently stabilized. That is some good news for the world of Hip Hop. Missy Elliot explains in People Magazine how she came to be diagnosed in 2008, speaking about a tense moment she had while driving, "My leg was jumping," she said. "I couldn't keep the brake down and almost crashed." It got to the point she couldn't even hold a pen when her nerves became just to spastic.

Missy is going to elaborate on her condition further on VH1's Behind the music next week Wednesday, June 29th at 10 p.m ET/PT. She will also be opening up about some other touchy subjects, namely sexual abuse she experienced as a child. Hopefully we will be hearing better news from Missy in the future and as of right now that seems likely according to her. She took to twitter and promised fans a new single and reminded them she still got it. For more.
