The Missouri Tigers may have been ranked 2 in the country, but that didn't stop Oklahoma State from putting up a 7 point victory last night.
Missouri is now tied for second with the Baylor Bears at 5-2 in the Big 12. The Tigers led with 6 minutes left in the game, but OSU put together a run and ended up with a comfortable win to help Kansas.
The Big 12 had been led by the Jayhawks since league play began. Kansas is undefeated in the league and stayed one step ahead of Baylor and Missouri by giving Baylor one of their league losses and now each team having two league losses.
With a 2 game lead and coming off two white-knuckle wins over Texas and Texas A and M.
Kansas has 11 conference games left, so anything can happen. The Jayhawks have yet to face off with the Tigers this season. With two games against the Tigers and one more against the Bears, Kansas cannot afford any more losses in conference play.
Some sports corners have already given KU the Big 12 title. Kansas is notorious for losing 1 or two games against lesser foes, so there is a chance that Kansas can lose a game to a Texas or Texas A and M and then a game to Missouri or Baylor. That would result in a tie for the league unless Missouri or Baylor also trips up.
All that being said, Kansas is in the driver's seat with a little less pressure. That can be comforting, but it can also be dangerous by producing a false sense of security resulting in Kansas playing less than 100%.
Kansas needs to prove themselves against Missouri or Baylor on the road to feel confident that the Big 12 title is in the bag.
