Missouri Republican fires back at proposed assault weapons ban, literally

What's the easiest way to foster bipartisanship and compromise? It's not taking a copy of a law proposed by the Democrats to your local shooting range and having patrons riddle it with bullets. Yet, that's exactly what Missouri Republican Eric Burlison did on Tuesday.

Rep. Burlison was so pleased at sticking it to the Democrats, he even posted a video to YouTube showing shooters gleefully firing rounds at a copy of an assault weapons ban proposed by Democrats, similar to one introduced in New York earlier this year.

Burlison claims the proposed bill, known as S.B. 545, would make it a felony to own an assault rifle in the state of Missouri. The bill would restrict certain weapons and magazines, giving residents 90-days to turn them in before the law takes effect.

It is clear the state GOP is not intent on negotiating any laws to protect citizens from gun violence. On the same day Burlison was firing bullets into a proposed bill, one of his Republican counterparts proposed a law making it a felony to propose any gun control laws within the state of Missouri.

What's clear is the Missouri GOP has absolutely no intention of working with the Democrats in the state on any measure aimed at curbing gun violence in the state.
