The Mississippi Forestry Commission (MFC) is on the scene of a large wildfire in Harrison County that has burned nearly 200 acres.
The Sun Herald reported the wildfire started early Tuesday around 5:30 a.m. in a wooded area near the Canal Road exit and Interstate 10 in the Biloxi area.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the MFC said the wildfire was under control but was releasing a lot of smoke across the area.
"The fire is contained and our crews are monitoring it," said Mike Gray of the MFC.
"There's been a lot of calls about the smoke and there may be more smoke as the temperature goes up and the humidity goes down," Gray added.
State firefighters have cut a perimeter around the fire and area agencies have been advised, Gray said.
"They're letting the fire burn out now and trying to keep smoke to a minimum," said Gray.
There have been no reports of injuries or structures being destroyed.
The origin of the wildfire is under investigation.
