As a part of Tornado Awareness Month, the Jackson Weather Examiner will review severe storms that affected the state throughout the month of November.
On this date -November 5th:
In 1994, strong thunderstorms moved across portions Mississippi causing high wind damage and a F1 tornado.
The tornado touched down in Wathall County, 4 miles southwest of Sandy Hook, and moved northeast crossing into Marion county. The tornado lifted 1 mile southwest of Sandy Hook. One house was damaged when a tree fell on it. Numerous trees were blown down over a 15 to 20 acre area.
Notable Wind Damage:
- A trailer was damaged in Washington County
- The roof of a school, cotton compress, 19 trailers, and one house were damaged in Sunflower County
- House roof damaged in Panola County
- A 100-foot radio tower was blown down. Roof damage occurred at the Nesbit Fire Department. Eighteen car windows were blown out or damaged by the wind in Horn Lake. Several bed liners and camper tops were blown onto Interstate 55 from an adjacent business near Horn Lake. (De Soto County)
- Several homes were damaged in Benton County
- A shop building, a tractor, and a home were damaged in Pike County
- Several homes were damage in Forrest. There were reports of funnel clouds
$445,000 in property damage and $5,000 in crop damage were reported from these storms.
