As a part of Tornado Awareness Month, the Jackson Weather Examiner will review severe storms that affected the state throughout the month of November.
On this date -November 4th:
- In 1959, an F1 tornado touched down in Rankin County, causing $25,000 in property damages.
- In 1973, a 90 knot or 104 mph wind gust was reported in Rankin County.
- In 1988, severe thunderstorms moved across Central Mississippi, producing eleven tornadoes. Two F3 tornadoes caused nearly 1 million dollars in damages. Hail stones measuring 1.75 inches in diameter were also reported in several counties, including Jones, Hinds, Kemper, Attala, Simpson, Yazoo, Chickasaw, and Lee.
