As a part of Tornado Awareness Month, the Jackson Weather Examiner will review severe storms that affected the state throughout the month of November.
On this date -November 22nd:
One of the deadliest severe weather outbreaks in Mississippi history which began during the evening on November 21, 1992 , continued through the early morning hours on the 22nd, producing several additional strong tornadoes up to F-4 strength, which killed 3 people and injured over 60. Over the two day period, 15 people were killed and 267 were injured.
In 1959, a F-1 tornado caused an estimated $25,000 in damage in Montgomery County. (no tornado track or tornado width provided)
In 1961, a 50 yard wide, F-2 tornado tracked 4 miles across Jones County, injuring 1 person and causing an estimated $250,000 in property damage.
In 1983, a 73 yard wide, F-1 tornado tracked 2 miles across Rankin County, injuring 3 people and causing an estimated $25,000 in damage. Four people were injured as high winds swept across Leake County.
In 1989, high winds over 50 mph were reported in Jones County.
